Designing existing project upgrades/extensions with BACnet/SC

Existing building automation systems can be gradually upgraded to BACnet/SC. Since BACnet/SC maintains the BACnet benefits of compatibility, interoperability, and system scalability, step-by-step extensions, or upgrades of existing BACnet systems are easy to accomplish using BACnet routing functionality. Using the divide-and-conquer principle, introducing BACnet/SC into an existing BACnet system begins by logically partitioning the building and structuring the project into individual BACnet logical networks of different data link types. Integration can then start with a small BACnet/SC logical network "island" which connects to BACnet/IP and BACnet MS/TP networks using BACnet routing available in the PXC4/5/7 automation station. There should be a plan in place to upgrade the remaining unsecured networks as the devices on those networks become obsolete and replacement products become available.
