Blinds Output object (BlsOut)

The Blind Output (BlsOut) object type defines a standardized representation model of a blind actuator for the purpose of Automation and Control, and Operation and Monitoring. The object is independent of field device and blind-specific technologies. The respective drive control logic for absolute positioning and direct control may either be performed by a particular data acquisition or a networked field device. A Blind Output Object features two paradigms to command a blind actuator:

Control programs, system programs, operation and monitoring, and engineering and commissioning functions, as well as other BACnet objects, such as command, schedule and group objects located on any Building Automation station may use one or both methods to control blinds. However, the respective properties may not be commanded during every control program cycle.

The following actions may be typically triggered by switching a button, pushing one or multiple buttons, or by a menu command:

Present value

 

 

'Present value' indicates the present value of the virtual variable.

Present priority

 

 

"Present priority" property indicates the priority of the highest not released priority slot. If all priority slots are released and "Default command" is used as "Present value", "Present priority" will be set to 17.

Default command

 

 

"Default command" is the default value to be used for the "Present value" property when all command priority values in the "Priority array" property have a NULL value. The placement of NULL in the value parameter indicates the absence of any command at that priority. When all elements of the priority table array contain NULL, the commandable property shall assume the value defined in the "Default command" property of the object.

Default command kind

 

 

"Default command kind" allows configuring the behavior if no priority slot is active.

If the property is FALSE, "Default command" is used as a resulting present value and output to the peripheral device if no other target state or direct control command will be commanded by the time of the first peripheral output.

If the property is TRUE, "Default command" is used as a resulting present value, but no output is sent to the peripheral device if no other target state or direct control command will be commanded by the time of the first peripheral output.

Tracking value

 

 

'Tracking value' represents the uncorrected value as measured by the subsystem. It has the same data type as the 'Present value'.

  • It is not limited by 'Present minimum value' and 'Present maximum value'.
  • It is not corrected by the correction factor and offset.
  • It is updated, even if "Out of service" = 'True' applies.

Control command ✳

 

 

A BACnet object property that allows control commanding of a blind actuator in the same way as state commanding by writing an operation value including additional operation parameters, and a respective priority to this property, or by releasing a particular priority.

Reading:

  • Property is mainly provided to facilitate commanding and releasing.
  • Reading the property Control command delivers the last value of a control command commanded by a client.

Commanding:

  • Commanding the property Control command with a particular operation value including additional operation parameters, and a priority sets the respective priority slot according to Progress value and marks it as control commanded.
  • If the commanded priority is higher or equal to the Present priority, the Control command will be output to data acquisition.

Releasing:

  • Releasing the property Control command with a particular priority releasing the corresponding priority slot and re-arbitrates the Priority array.
  • Releasing the property Control command yields the same result as releasing Present value.

Direct control after releasing:

  • If a priority slot gets active after releasing, and the respective priority was commanded by a control command, the BACnet object resumes direct control.
  • In this case, the BACnet object does not output a control command to the data acquisition because re-output the previously commanded control command would not produce the same result as before.
  • Operations such step-up by step-increment, dim-up, stop, or move the angle of a blind only depend on timing constraints and/or initial states, which are no longer identical to the time of initial commanding.
  • However, control programs and/or operation and monitoring functions operating on the respective priority may now command new control commands, which will allow smooth movements or changes and avoid undesirable target state hopping observed by building users.

Present command kind

 

 

"Present command kind" indicates whether the current value of property Present-Value is the result of a target state command or a control command.
"Present command kind" will be updated by the output object itself.

Control-command

Present-Value results from control commanding.

Commanded

Present-Value results from target state commanding.

Last moving direction

 

 

"Last moving direction" indicates the last moving direction of a blind actuator.

  • Represents the last up/down moving direction of the blind actuator’s height or angle.
  • Is updated by data acquisition, unless "Out of service" is set.
  • The data acquisition provides respective estimated/simulated values if "Last moving direction" is not available.
  • May be used by a blind sensor solely for visualization purposes, for realizing the toggle functionality, or other purposes.

State flag

 

 

"State flag" represents four boolean flags ("Out of service", "Overridden", "Fault", "In-Alarm") that indicate the general status of an object.

Reliability

 

 

'Reliability' indicates whether the property value 'Present value' is reliable. If the 'Present value' is not reliable, the property 'Reliability' indicates the cause of the fault and the bit "Fault" of the state indication is set to 'True'. In a normal case, the property 'Reliability' is set to "No fault".

Out of service

 

 

"Out of service" allows decoupling the object from being modified by a control program, system program or peripheral device.

  • If "Out of service" is TRUE, the properties "Present value" and "Reliability" will no longer be updated by the respective control program, system program or peripheral device.
  • If "Out of service" is TRUE, the properties "Present value" and "Reliability" can be modified for simulating and testing purposes.
  • If "Out of service" will be changed from FALSE to TRUE, the properties "Present value" and "Reliability" keep their values. Nevertheless, they can be individually modified afterwards.
  • If "Out of service" will be changed from TRUE to FALSE, the properties "Present value" and "Reliability" keep their values. They will be modified by the next update of the producer.

Progress value ✳

 

 

A BACnet object property that indicates the actual position of a blind.

  • Progress value refers to the normalized moving range.
  • Progress value will be updated by a data acquisition.
  • If Progress value is not available, the data acquisition has to provide respective estimated/simulated values.
  • While a blind is moving, Progress value may be continuously updated.
  • If the Present priority was commanded by a control command, the BACnet object will update the respective priority slot and Present value with every notified Progress value to convey the illusion of a continuous target state commanding to clients of the object.
  • If no priority is active and Default control is TRUE, the BACnet object will update Default and Present value with every notified Progress value to convey the illusion of a continuous modifying of Default to clients of the object.

"In progress" indicates whether a command is being processed (i.e. the blind is moving, the light is changing).

Field device type

 

 

"Field device type" is a text description of the physical peripheral device connected to the input or output. Typically contains the product part number of the connected device. To be completed by the engineer. Is not used by the data acquisition.

I/O address

 

 

"I/O address" identifies and documents the data source, and facilitates configuring, modifying, and querying the assignment in a standardized way.

The content of "I/O address" is technology-specific and includes:

  • Unique selector to identify and document the respective data acquisition. For example, TX-I/O or KNX PL-Link.
  • Unique address to identify the peripheral data source. For example, TX-I/O 3.4.
  • Blank until assigned to a Module.

Actuator type

 

 

"Actuator type" indicates the type of actuator used. The property is set up during engineering. The property is typically used by an operation & monitoring function to visualize and operate blind positions such as height and angle.

  • "Actuator type" = Blind
    • Height and angle of actuator can be moved.
    • Position includes height and angle.
    • Example: Venetian blinds.
  • "Actuator type" = Shutter
    • Only height of actuator can be moved.
    • Angle cannot be moved
    • Default value for angle: 0%
    • Example: Awnings
  • "Actuator type" = Louver
    • Only angle of actuator can be moved
    • Height can’t be moved
    • Default value for height position: 0%

Commissioning state

 

 

"Commissioning state" is an enumerated value representing the commissioning state (Not checked, Check failed, Check successful) of the BACnet object.

Typically set during commissioning by means of engineering and commissioning function (for example, Automation Building Tool or installer tool). It can be inspected by engineering and commissioning, or operation and monitoring functions, and used in commissioning reports.

Commissioning information

 

 

"Commissioning information" indicates additional, human-readable information about the BACnet object's commissioning state. For example, "cable defect".

Typically set during commissioning by means of engineering and commissioning function (for example, Automation Building Tool or installer tool). It can be inspected by engineering and commissioning, or operation and monitoring functions, and used in commissioning reports.

Maximum actual value

 

 

"Maximum actual value" defines the higher limit of the allowed physical range of the output.

  • Valid range of "Maximum actual value": "Minimum actual value" <= "Maximum actual value" <= 100%
  • Clients such as operation & monitoring functions, or control program use always the normalized range 0...100%, which will be limited to the allowed physical range.
  • Limiting normalized range to the allowed physical range will be accomplished by the data acquisition.
  • Limiting the allowed range does not cause a reliability error.
  • "Maximum actual value" has the same data type structure as the "Present value" property.

Minimum actual value

 

 

"Minimum actual value" defines the lower limit of the allowed physical range of the output.

  • Valid range of "Minimum actual value": 0% < "Minimum actual value" <= "Maximum actual value".
  • Clients such as operation and monitoring functions, or control program use always the normalized range 0…100%, which will be limited to the allowed physical range.
  • Independently of the allowed physical range, the normalized range value 0% (off) always relates to the physical value 0% (off).
  • Limiting normalized range to the allowed physical range will be accomplished by the data acquisition.
  • Limiting the allowed range does not cause a reliability error.
  • "Minimum actual value" has the same data type structure as the "Present value" property.

Change of value, COV

 

 

'Change of value, COV' specifies the minimum change in 'Present value' property that will cause a COV notification to be issued to change-of-value subscribers of this object.

"Object access level" defines the instance-specific object access level. "Object access level" is used for generic filtering and processing an object by a client application.

  • "Object access level" is a configuration property which can only be set up offline (ABT, application configuration).
  • "Object access level" is evaluated by client applications such as Technical Operator, DB-Import, and APOGEE Point Team mapping.

Object usage

 

 

"Object usage" indicates whether the object is used or unused. The "Object usage" property can hide or display respective objects and their functionality in a client. For example, room functionality can be marked for flexible room arrangements as used/unused. An object that is marked as unused behaves as if the object does not exist.

Object name

 

 

"Object name" represents a name for the object that is unique internetwork-wide. The minimum length of the string is one character. The set of characters used in the "Object name" are restricted to printable characters.
