Modbus
The Modbus task allows you to create networks, devices and data points as well as gateways for Modbus.

② Plants navigation view
The Plants navigation view shows the hierarchy of devices in the plant. Select and right-click the plant to display the context menu commands.
Context menu command | Description |

| Open/close folder structure. |
| Hide/unhide plant information. |
Filter | Enter letters to reduce the object view. |
Add plant | Opens the Add plant window for creating a new plant. |
Add folder | Opens the Add folder window for creating a new folder. |
Delete | Deletes the selected element. |
Duplicate | Creates a copy of the selected element. |
Rename | Opens the Rename… window for entering a different name for the selected element. |
Show in program | Opens the selected element in the Programming editor. |
Open properties | Opens the Properties of the selected element. |
③Toolbar
Command | Description |

State | Indicates the state of the application. The green color indicates that the application is online and running or paused.
|
Check | Checks for duplicate names, number of I/Os, trend limits, etc. The check is automatically performed before loading a device. |
(Play) | Only visible when the device is online. Activates an online session and loads changes for the selected device. |
(Pause) | Only visible when the device is online and an online, session is started. Deactivates an active online session. |
(Alarming) | Temporarily suppresses all alarms for testing purposes. Note: If several alarms are triggered due to a field device status is “Device-Missing” (perform an alarm shower), only the “Device-Missing” alarm is sent to the corresponding recipients. This ensures that the user does not receive and have to acknowledge multiple alarms. |
④ Modbus area
In the Modbus area, there is a network tree to navigate through the elements of the Modbus network. There is also a separate toolbar, and the Workplace table.
Command | Description |

Add network | Opens the Add network window where you can create a new network. |
Add device | Opens the Add device window where you can create a new device. |
Add data point | Opens the Add data point window where you can create a new data point. |
The Workplace table provides an overview of the Modbus network. Click an item in the network tree to view the properties its properties. There are different columns depending on your selection.
Column | Description |

Name | The name of the element. Editable text field. |
Description | The description of the element. Editable text field. |
Status | The status of the selected network. |
Unit | The type of unit. |
Type | The type of object. |
Data type | The type of data. |
Function code | The corresponding function code of the data point. |
Address | The port address within the Modbus network. Editable numeric field. |
(Alarming) | Select to activate the alarming function for the object. |
(Trending) | Select to activate the trending function for the object. |
Assign bulk | Bulk object filter. Select a bulk object from the list to show only the matching bulk reader objects. |
Parameters | The calculated value from multiple properties. |
Extension | Drop-down list, typically for RTU network there is only one extension. |
⑤ Library and Properties
The Library and Properties area on the right can be toggled. The Library view contains elements which can be dragged directly to the working area.
Library
The Property view shows the properties of the selected element. The items displayed in the Property view depend on the selected object type.
Help

The More symbol always opens the English documentation in the HIT portal "https://hit.sbt.siemens.com/". It is expected that user change the desired language\region on HIT portal to see the help in the desired language.
Context menu
Command | Description |

Add data point | Opens the Add data point window where you can create a new data point. |
Delete | Deletes the selected object. |
Rename | Opens the Rename device window where you can change the name and description of the selected object. |
Duplicate | Creates a copy of the selected object. |
Start tracing | Only available when online. Opens the Traces –Network view window where you can view transmitted and received Modbus telegrams with date and time stamp. Note: The Modbus tracing is not available through MS/TP devices. It is available for MS/TP devices when connected via the WLAN since we have no bandwidth restriction there. |
Stop tracing | Only available when Modbus tracing is enabled. Disables the Modbus network tracing. |
Optimize network traffic | Applies a bulk reader which reduces the number of requests on the network with the result of reducing the network load. |
Shift data point addresses | The address range can be changed by the entered offset for the entire automation station. |
Show objects from bulk read | Applies the Assign bulk filter for the selected bulk reader. A bulk reader object has to be selected. |
Show in plant | Opens the selected object in the plant view. |
Show in program | Opens the Programming editor. |
Open properties | Opens the properties of the selected object. |
